Michigan Wolverines football team to have DJs in home games

Last updated August 12, 2022

The Michigan Wolverines football team has announced they will have an on-field DJ during all their home games this season.

Last year, the team featured an on-field DJ in a game against the Ohio State Buckeyes at Michigan Stadium. The game became the most-watched college football match that season, recording 15 million viewers on FOX, per Sports Media Watch, while the official attendance was 111,156.

Wolverines claimed a 42-27 win from their long-time rival. It was their first win against the Buckeyes since 2011. The athletics department of the University of Michigan said they hoped to repeat the same hype this year.

Performers at this year’s games

Wolverines will bring back DJ Skee (Scott Keeney), who was the DJ in last year’s game. He will perform in a game against the Penn State Nittany Lions on October 15.

The match will be a Maize Out game, an annual event at The Big House. At this event, Wolverines fans are suggested to wear the team’s official color, yellow.

They will also feature a flyover performance of Air Force F-16s in the pregame. The school has invited Grammy winner Wynton Marsalis, who will perform his trumpet pieces with the Michigan Marching Band during halftime.

DJ Array has been invited for five games. He will perform at games against the Colorado State Rams on September 3, the UConn Huskies on September 17, the Maryland Terrapins on September 24, the Nebraska Cornhuskers on November 12, and the Illinois Fighting Illini on November 19. Meanwhile, DJ Truth will perform at the game against the Michigan State Spartans on October 29.

There will be two more aviation-themed events. The 107th Fighter Squadron of the 112th Fighter Wing will show their flyover before the game against the Spartans. A parachute jump show will take place before the Wolverines face the Cornhuskers.

Michigan’s high viewership

The Michigan football team has been attracting high viewerships in its games. The team led the TV viewership ranks in Week 9 last year. Their game with Michigan State, in which the Wolverines lost, was viewed by 9.3 million people.

In Week 11 of 2021, the team led the TV viewership charts. They gained 5.9 million viewers in a game against Penn State. This time, they defeated the opponent.

Their meeting against Iowa Hawkins in the 2021 Big Ten Championship Game recorded 11.7 million viewers. This record was second only to a Southeastern Conference (SEC) game broadcasted that weekend.

The Wolverines recorded 12-2 last season, which included conference-winning stats of 8-1. They claimed the Big Ten title last year after defeating Iowa.

ESPN included Michigan in the top 25 college football future power. They were ranked within the top 10 for quarterback, offense, and defense. Last year, the Wolverines did not make it into ESPN’s prediction.

The best players on the roster include starting quarterback Cade McNamara and sophomore J. J. McCarthy. They will not have Hassan Haskins, who played a major role in their win against Ohio State last year, this season. However, the team has introduced Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards as running backs.
